Take on Clothing Standards in Indian Society
How do wardrobes change with time: from high school to college? And from places that you live in? Does weather really matter?
Indian societies have since long been defined by their lingual communities and the castes that they were born into. With every community, came opinions and perspectives on clothing that the women of the household donned. Are those women restricted by certain stereotypes or do they have freedom to wear what they wish to?
Almost two decades into the 21st century, can social media influence the many ways that Indian women dress themselves as? Individually, how can one break the stigma around “why the woman wore what she wore?”

Glossary:
Rajasthan: North-western state of India, land of the desert
Sindh: former part of British India, now in Pakistan
Kurta: a long piece of clothing, like a top, but usually till knees, usually cotton
Pooja: prayer
Salwar-kameez: kurta and loose pants
Dadi: paternal grandmother
Hetal ben: Hetal is the housemaid, referred to as ‘sister’ for respect
